Spinning

There's a new wheel at my house. What a great husband and a great birthday present.

Oh, just think some day I might make beautiful yarn. Please notice how I said someday. This fun new piece of equipment might look easy to use, but those twists are tricky business. I've been treadling for days only to discover I'll be doing a whole lot more treadling before I have what I'd call "real" yarn. Practice, practice, practice. I've been treadling so much, I'm treadling while I'm sitting here typing this.

So I did make a bobbin full of yarn. Be nice, it's my first and I'm hoping when it goes onto the niddy nobby it will still look like yarn.

With practice and something new comes patience. Although this is something I've had to work on my whole life I'll get some...patience that is and eventually hand spun yarn to share.

In between treadling, I think I'm going to try hand dying this week. Stay tuned for updates and pictures. Hope the dye stays on the table and doesn't turn the kitchen to many shades of red (or whatever colors I decide to work with).

What happened to Spring

It's been a little strange around here lately (well, more strange than usual). March and April flew buy with doctor visits, surgery and a visit with my mother in law. Now May is almost over and I'm thinking what the heck happened. Still seeing doctors, but really not much else seems to be happening here these days. I haven't been by my sewing machine much lately and can't really think of anything I've accomplished knitting. I'm still working on a great pair of color-work owl mittens and yes, there are always socks in my bag, but what else have I been doing? Well, I needle felted a couple of really cute little lambs or at least I think their cute. I organized my roving and ransacked through all my yarn looking for inspiration (so now I have that to re-organize). I took a spinning class with a friend (fell in love of course) then headed to the library to check out everything related to spinning and hand dying.

Well, I guess that is what's been happening, my passion (or obsession) for fiber is still growing (while my ability to get anything finished these days seems sort of far fetched).

What to make? A sweater, a vest, more scarves, hats, mittens. Who knows, I'm sure something will catch my eye soon. Right now though, it's all about yarn....
